Replace audio discards the sound the video arrived with and uses only the track you uploaded. That is the setting for footage with unusable audio, or for putting a piece of music over a clip that was silent to begin with.
Overlay audio keeps the original soundtrack and mixes your track on top of it, so speech or ambient sound stays audible underneath the music. A video that turns out to have no audio track at all has nothing to mix into, so your track simply replaces the soundtrack and the result tells you it did.
Either way the added audio can be faded in at the start and faded out at the end, two seconds per fade, and a track shorter than the video is looped until the video finishes.
Adding audio to a video is free and needs no account. Every upload and download runs over an encrypted connection, so your footage cannot be read on the way.
