Why convert WEBM to MP4

MP4 plays where WEBM does not

WEBM was designed for video inside a web page, and support mostly stops there. Phones, TV sets, older players and video editing software read MP4 instead, so converting turns a file that will not open into one that simply plays.

Choose the codec yourself

H.264 for the widest compatibility, H.265 or AV1 for a smaller file at the same picture, VP9 or MPEG-4 when a device asks for them. The list is the one the conversion engine accepts for MP4.

Nothing to install

Conversion runs on our servers over an encrypted connection. There is no software to download and no account needed to use it.

From WEBM to MP4

WEBM is a compact, open container built to play video inside a browser, which is why so much of what you save off the web arrives as one. The same design is what stops it elsewhere: a lot of phones, TV sets, media players and editing programs never learned to read it.

Converting writes the video into MP4, the container those devices do read. Add as many WEBM files as you like and each one comes back as its own MP4 with the same settings applied. Other video formats are accepted in the same upload, so a mixed folder converts in one go.

You can also paste a link instead of uploading, or pull the file in from cloud storage.

The video settings

The video codec select decides how the picture is stored. H.264 is the safe answer that plays on almost anything. H.265 and AV1 reach a similar picture in a smaller file but need a recent player. Copy carries the existing video stream over untouched and only rewraps it into MP4, which is the fastest route when the codec is already what you want.

Frame rate and screen size are there for a target device that needs a particular number, and deinterlacing cleans up footage from an older camera or a TV recording.

The bitrate method decides how quality is controlled. CRF asks for a constant quality and lets the size follow, on a scale where a lower number means better quality and a bigger file. Constant and variable bitrate let you name the figure in kbps instead.

Anything you do not touch is not sent at all, so the engine keeps its own defaults for it.

The audio settings

The sound track can be re-encoded to AAC, HE-AAC, MP3, MP2, Opus or Vorbis, or copied across as it is. Bitrate, sample rate up to 96000 Hz, and stereo or mono are separate selects beside it.

There is also a switch that removes the audio completely, which is what you want for a silent background clip or before you put a new sound track on the video.

Free to use, and private by default

Converting a video to MP4 is free and needs no account. Every upload and download runs over an encrypted connection, so your footage cannot be read on the way.

Processing is fully automated: nobody watches your videos and they are never used to train AI models. You keep the copyright and the ownership of both the video you upload and the one you get back.

The servers that do the work are in Europe.

Questions about converting WEBM to MP4

Why will my WEBM file not play?

WEBM was made for playing video inside a browser, and support largely stops there. Plenty of phones, TV sets, older media players and video editing programs never learned the container, so the file refuses to open or reports that the format is unsupported. MP4 is the container all of them read.

Will converting change the quality?

Re-encoding a video compresses it again, so a little detail is lost. Leaving the settings alone keeps that change small. If you would rather steer it, the bitrate method lets you set a CRF value, where a lower number means better quality and a larger file, or name a bitrate in kbps yourself.

Should I pick the Copy codec for a WEBM file?

Copy skips re-encoding and only rewraps the existing stream into MP4, which is quick and changes nothing about the picture. The catch is that a WEBM file normally carries VP8 or VP9 video, and a player that could not read the WEBM may not read those streams inside an MP4 either. If compatibility is the reason you are converting, pick H.264 and let the video be re-encoded.

Can I convert several videos at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like and each one is converted separately with the same settings, then returned as its own MP4.

Can I remove or change the audio?

Both. One switch drops the sound track completely, and separate selects cover the audio codec, the bitrate, the sample rate and stereo or mono.

Does it cost anything?

No. Converting to MP4 here is free and does not require an account. A paid plan raises the upload limit and how many files you can process at once.
