The comparison returns VMAF, a metric that fuses several image quality measures into a single number, so the difference between the two videos is measured instead of guessed.
The report puts both videos in their own column: name, size, dimensions, duration, file type and codecs, plus the frames where the two differ.
The comparison runs on our servers over an encrypted connection. There is no software to download and no account needed to use it.
The report opens with a file details table. Name, size, dimensions, duration, file type, video codec and audio codec, one column per video, so a mismatch in the container or the codec is visible before you read a single metric.
Underneath sits the quality metrics table. Every metric the job returned gets a row, and each row carries its harmonic mean, mean, maximum and minimum. VMAF is the headline figure; the ADM, motion and VIF components it is built from are listed beside it, which is where you look to see what kind of difference the score is reacting to.
The last section is the frame comparison: the difference frames the job produced, drawn from the videos themselves rather than from a summary.
The finished report exports as a single PDF, tables and frames included.
MP4 is what most people bring, and MOV, WEBM, MKV, AVI, FLV, WMV, M4V and OGG are accepted the same way. The first video is the reference; the second is the one scored against it.
The two videos do have to share a resolution. The comparison lines the pictures up frame by frame, so a 1080p file and a 720p one cannot be measured against each other.
Each of the two can come from a different place: your computer, a link you paste, or Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive.
